Medical applications (Dermatology, HF surgery)

Laser surgery is a source of hazardous particles. The aerosols derived from laser surgery consist of parts of human tissue that become airborne when the tissue is being treated with the laser beam. The fume and vapours released by laser surgery spread explosively while the actual health hazard comes from microbes such as bacteria, fungi and viruses smaller than 2µm. When these microbes are inhaled they settle in the lung. Thus, they impose a serious infection risk on surgery staff as well as on the patients.
